Foreigner’s guide to Polish Dating Part One - Dating Polish Women

Polish dating isn’t that much different from British dating, American dating or German dating. If you know who you are and you can be charming and polite, you may as well forget any rules. But Poland is a complex and fascinating place and knowing nuances and subtleties, or simply knowing more’ can get you to places you never thought existed. So keep reading. First you must know that Poland has always been on the crosswords of East and West, tradition and modernity, progress and backwardness. This duality is still present, so the rules pointed out below not always apply. But I’ll guide you through them.

1. Greeting your Polish date

Hand Kissing. This sign of Polish chivalry can do miracles for you, but only if done the right way - you should never lift her arm to the height of your mouth in order to kiss Polish Woman. This is an ultimate no-no. You have to bend. It is a skill you can learn, but since even Polish men often kiss woman’s hands the wrong way, worry not - just keep trying until you can kiss hand like Roman Polanski. And yhou can always shake hands - not so impressive, but acceptable and safe.
Handshake is a safe and always acceptable way of greeting women in Poland. Lean forward, smile and shake hands firmly, with affection, but not-too-strong! This is a no-no. So is a week ‘cold fish’ handshake.
Finally, you can use a touch-free option for greeting Polish women (or women general for that matter)  - just say hi, smile and nod.
“Just say hi” however is a bad way of meeting your Polish date! When on 2nd date, or even 1st date, the most appropriate will be kissing each other in both chicks.
Kissing each other in both cheeks is very common in Poland not only among Polish women, but also among younger generation, also in a non-dating situation. So, don’t panic, you’re not doing anything intimate yet.
Finally, whatever you decide, be polite, self-confident and smile a lot - this attitude may win you many hearts.

2. Door-holding

This rule of Polish Dating means you hold the door and let the Polish girl go first. Saying “after you” or “you first” with a nice smile, is expected and will be appreciated (rewarded). Sometimes, when the door is heavy or you go into a packed place, the rule may mean you go first and hold the door for her. Remember this is more about ‘door-holding’ than ‘letting her first’.
As with any other rule relating to Polish Dating – be flexible and don’t apply it all the time and towards everybody. Just be natural, she’ll love it.

3. Buying flowers

This is very nice and important element of Polish dating. Polish women love receiving flowers. They like receiving flowers on occasion – names day, birthday, anniversary, first date - or without any occasion at all. The power of flowers (shall I say ‘flower power’?) will amaze you. Here’s an advice that will illustrate what flowers can do: bring flowers on your first date, kiss her on both chicks and say ‘you look beautiful’. While she’s cooling down from the stunning impression you’ve made, you stay calm as if you’ve done that 1,000 times and start a neutral topic. Then come back to PolishDate.com and write an article about how it worked.

4. Paying the bill

This one is controversial, since independent and professional Polish woman may not like the idea of a man paying the entire bill. However most Polish women are of traditional background and they will appreciate your good manners. Just remember, when dating a Polish woman, it’s never wrong to offer getting the bill. If she refuses, ask, – ‘are you sure’ - and try not to insist beyond that point, but obviously use your own judgment; after all if the place is expensive and it was your idea to come here, you should insist… So, in general, yes, you are expected to pay, but don’t be pushy or macho, and if she wants, let her share the bill with you.

5. Bragging vs. self-confidence

Overconfidence and bragging, especially about money, will get you nowhere with most Polish women. In fact you might even lose your chances. So, don’t. Just be confident, be natural, be yourself.

6. Respecting

Don’t make fun of her, her friends or family members. If you don't like something about her now, you never gonna like it in the future. So leave now before things get serious. Fortunately there are millions of beautiful Polish Women on this planet - sooner or later you'll find the right one. Just keep trying. Never stop.

7. Criticizing

Don’t criticize her accent or her style. If you don’t like the your Polish woman speaks or dresses, find another Polish woman, there are millions of them.

8. Be truthful to yourself

Do not pretend you're someone else. Such strategy will sooner or later backfire. Be honest and stand up to your convictions if necessary.

9. Start learning Polish

I used the word ‘start’ deliberately, because the process of learning Polish language never really ends, also for native speakers. Yes, it's pretty difficult but very rewarding - even a few words in Polish will bring you lots of sympathy. There is a plenty of Polish language schools for foreigners in Poland and abroad – especially in the UK. You may also look for a private tutor – there are lots of Polish native speakers in Western Europe and America.

10. Sex and Polish dating

Polish women are usually extremely attractive, so if you just moved to Poland or if you have new immigrants in your community, you may develop some kind of sexual obsession with them. Don’t lose your head though, and, when you start dating a Polish woman, don’t push for sex, but rather give her as much time as she needs. You’ll score a plenty of points with her by being a gentleman, and you’ll be in better control of your relationship’s destiny. That leads us to another general rule...

11. Always be a gentleman when dating a (Polish) woman.

Gentleman does not need any explanation here.

12. Have fun!

Polish women are among the most beautiful in the world. And you are about to date one of them! If this is not the reason to have fun and celebrate, then what is?
